Ground Support Equipment (GSE) is incredibly important, helping to facilitate operations around the aircraft while it’s on the ground. It refers to all the equipment airport ground crew use to perform services on aircraft between flights.

This equipment could be simple machines, such as aircraft maintenance stands, service stairs, aircraft tugs, air cargo handling equipment, de-icing equipment, lavatory and water service equipment and more. GSE refers to the specialised tools used to support aircraft operations on the ground, including maintenance, refuelling, towing, and baggage and air cargo handling.

Unit Load Devices (ULDs) are large, specialised containers or pallets designed to group and secure air cargo. Their primary purpose is to eliminate the need for manual loading and unloading, while also protecting the cargo from damage or loss throughout the entire transit process—before, during, and after transportation.

Airports and their warehouses must store ULDs, as well as other air cargo handling services, however, certain equipment is required to do this safely and properly.
